Karen Warshal has been teaching Portraiture for 27 years, the last 15 of which have
been at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore where students seek her out
for her traditional approach.
She’s a classically trained artist whose work draws heavily on the art of the past.

She maintains a consistent practice of drawing and painting models in her studio in Baltimore where fellow artists and students regularly join her.
Her awards include a Maryland State Arts Council Grant, a two-time finalist in the ARC Salon, and a winner in the National Portrait Society’s Members Only Competition.

Her work has appeared in American Artist: Drawing and in International Artist magazine.

Most recently, Karen was one of five artists chosen to paint the last five mayors of Baltimore.

Her portrait of Mayor Bernard Jack Young will hang in Baltimore City Hall.
In addition to her work as an artist, Karen conducts annual art historical tours of Italy under the auspices of her company “Perspective Tours, LLC.”

She studied Italian, which she speaks fluently, at the Universita’ per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy.
One of her favorite things is to share the wonders of Italy’s beauty and its art with others.
