Amanda Degener educates through writing, publishing and traveling to teach and exhibit her work in the United States and in places such as Japan, Italy, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Korea, and Taiwan/China. Degener co-founded Hand Papermaking Magazine (now 30 years old) and co-published it for six years. Degener informally started Cave Paper in 1984 then 10 years later when Bridget O’Malley joined it grew into a production paper enterprise.. Degener graduated from Bennington College and received an MFA from Yale School of Art in Sculpture. She moved her paper studio to the not yet-opened Minnesota Center for Book Arts where she was one of many Founders, their first Artist-in-Residence, and later their first Artistic Director.
