Karen Warshal has been teaching Portraiture for the last 25 years, the last 12 of which have been at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore where students seek her out for her traditional approach. She’s a classically trained artist whose work draws heavily on the art of the past. She maintains a consistent practice of drawing and painting models in her studio in Baltimore where others artist and students regularly join her.
She is the recipient of a Maryland State Arts Council Grant, a finalist in the ARC Salon, and the 8th prize winner in the National Portrait Society’s recent Members’ Competition. She is a member of the National Portrait Society and of the International Guild of Realist Artists.
She is also the owner and director of Perspective Tours, LLC, her company through which she has been organizing and leading art historical tours of Italy since 1998. Watching the wonder and excitement on people’s faces as they discover the treasures of Italy’s museums and churches has been one of the highlights of her career.
