Ivan Albreht is a contemporary ceramic artist whose practice moves fluidly between object making and large‑scale installation. He maintains an active studio focused on form, material transformation, and social context. Trained at the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade (Yugoslavia at the time) and holding an MFA from Southern Illinois University (USA), Albreht combines rigorous technical skill with a conceptual approach shaped by his transnational background and sustained engagement with ceramics as a mode of inquiry. As a professor with more than 20 years of experience, he leads the ceramics program at the University of Miami, teaching hand‑building, wheel work, and contemporary ceramic art while mentoring emerging makers and developing studio curricula. His work has been exhibited across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Recognitions include a Special Prize at the 4th World Ceramic Biennial in Korea and election to the International Academy of Ceramics in 2009, distinctions that reflect his standing in the field. Albreht’s practice is defined by material curiosity and process‑driven experimentation, exploring the fragility and resilience of surfaces, the interplay of industrial and handmade techniques, and the narrative potential of assembled forms.
